Local snapshot history for Microsoft Word for MacOS

Share your writing with the world. Not your files.

Word History restores the simple promise of autosaves and document versioning: your drafts, saved locally on your Mac. No cloud account, no subscription, no bullshit.

What it does

Autosave history that belongs to you.

Watches your recovery folder

Point Microsoft Word and Word History at the same AutoRecover folder. The app watches that local folder for recoverable document versions.

Stores immutable snapshots

Captured versions are copied into Word History's local storage so later Word cleanup or overwrites do not erase the record.

Restores when needed

Use a normal copy restore or recover through Word when you need to inspect or bring back an earlier AutoRecover version.

Privacy first

No cloud. No account. No subscription.

Word History is for people who want local document safety without moving their writing into a cloud service. It preserves Word AutoRecover history in local app storage on your Mac.

The recommended setup uses a user-managed folder, usually ~/Documents/WordAutorecovery, so Word and Word History share a clear, user-controlled location.
